Coverage & sources
Coverage snapshot: October 14, 2026.
The beta includes main electrical licensing paths in all 48 contiguous U.S. states. This is a directory and planning foundation, not a complete list of every specialty, local certificate, reciprocity pathway, or qualification alternative. Plumbing, HVAC, Alaska, Hawaii, and detailed local checklists are not currently covered.
Exam-reference coverage
35 paths
Permitted-reference lists checked against named official exams.
11 paths
Some reference details or exam-version questions remain.
54 paths
Reference lists still need verification.
13 paths
Resources depend on the local office and exact test.
12 paths
Business licensing or registration without a separate electrical trade exam.
How to use the sources
Each path links to its licensing authority, application information, and exam guidance. Source review dates describe when the linked information was reviewed. They do not mean that every applicant situation, local requirement, or license category has been fully verified.
Book lists belong to the exact examination identified on the page. Other exams accepted by the same Board can use different editions and rules. Codes adopted for electrical work and books recommended for studying are not automatically permitted during testing.
Local licenses and business credentials
Some states license individuals, some license contracting businesses, and some rely on city or county credentials. An example local office applies to that jurisdiction only. A master electrician credential and a contractor business license may be separate requirements.
Changes and corrections
Provider links, books, fees, and rules can change. Use the current official instructions before applying or booking. If a link is inaccessible or a detail conflicts with an official source, contact the authority and report the issue to us. We do not endorse a book seller or receive referral payments through this beta.
